FORT WALTON BEACH – An 18-year-old told Fort Walton Beach Police officers he knew the pickup truck he was driving had been stolen, but a man named “Black” let him borrow it. Police charged him with grand theft auto anyway.

The incident took place at Fort Walton Beach High School. A student told the school resource officer a pickup in the parking lot had been stolen. The SRO said he saw the 2014 Ford F-150 with Jyreese Emanuel Griffin sitting in the driver’s seat with the keys in the ignition. The truck was confirmed stolen.

Griffin was arrested and told police he didn’t steal the truck but did drive it to school that day. He added he knew the truck was stolen but a man named “Black” had let him borrow it. He couldn’t provide any other information about Black.

Griffin has a Dec. 23 court date.
