Disturbance call leads to two arrests

MIRAMAR BEACH - Two people were arrested for drug charges on Wednesday after a deputy responded to a disturbance call in the area, according to the Walton County Sheriff's Office.

The deputy approached a man and a woman sitting in a silver vehicle at a business on U.S. Highway 98. When the deputy noticed the man, 41-year-old John Cooper Fant of Panama City, appeared under the influence, a drug dog was called in. The dog alerted on the vehicle, which was then searched.

Several baggies of suspected marijuana, crystal meth, prescription medications,  drug paraphernalia, and $7,280 cash were all found inside a backpack in the vehicle. A Taurus .38 Special was also found under the driver’s seat.

Fant and April Michelle Burton, 37, of Foley, Ala., were both charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Fant, who is a convicted felon, is also being charged with possession of a firearm or ammo by a convicted felon and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.
