DESTIN — Officials are investigating an early morning fire that caused thousands in damages to the Dollar Tree on 14069 Emerald Coast Parkway.
Destin Fire Department Battalion Chief James Taylor said emergency responders were called around midnight to the fire, which he said will shut down the store for at least the time being.
The store’s sprinkler system activated, which helped put out the blaze but damaged a large amount of the store’s goods. When first responders arrived there was just smoke inside the store.
Taylor estimated the total damages at around $100,000. No other stores near the Dollar Tree were damaged.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
Destin Fire Department and South Walton Fire District responded to the call.
