‘Thank you for trying’

Michelle Schuka found an interesting way to be kind during Covenant Hospice’s Random Acts of Kindness Month.

When dining out at a local restaurant, she received a cold cup of coffee, followed by a cold meal.

The waitress apologized profusely, which is when Schuka asked her for a piece of paper and a pen.

Obviously upset, the waitress offered them a discount for the problems they encountered and told Schuka she was a single mom working on her college degree.

This is what Schuka wrote: “Thank you for trying to make our dining experience pleasurable. Thank you for taking care of all of our needs.”

She also gave the waitress a $40 tip, so the server could get her daughter a nice Christmas present from Santa.

The waitress started to cry.

Schuka just asked her to remember to pass on an act of kindness to someone else.

Dressing for success

Holly Jacobs of Crestview and her daughter donated some clothing suitable for interviews to the JobsPlus Teens Ready to Work Program.

Then Jacobs asked her aunt, Sue Summers, in North Dakota, to perform a Random Act of Kindness in honor of Covenant Hospice.

Summers pushed out of her comfort zone and collected money from her co-workers to help a friend who has cancer, three kids and no insurance.

“I don’t like asking people for money, so this was not my normal thing to do, but I was pleased to be able to give the donations,” she posted on Covenant Hospice’s Facebook page.

Paying it forward

When Covenant Hospice employee Jessie Harlson overheard an older man in a store asking a clerk the cost of a Farmer’s Almanac, she knew what she had to do.

The man put it back, saying he couldn’t afford it.

Harlson grabbed it up, purchased it and handed it to the man as he was leaving the store.

November may be over but Random Acts of Kindness are in season all year.
