MILTON — Dominic Turner, who was charged with striking a deputy with his car during a high-speed chase, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Turner of Navarre originally was charged with attempted murder for veering off a road Jan. 24 to strike a Santa Rosa County sheriff’s deputy who was laying spike strips to slow him, according to the state attorney’s office.
The deputy suffered a sprained knee and bruises.
Turner pleaded to aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, fleeing or attempting to elude, felony battery and battery on a law enforcement officer, the state attorney’s office reported. He also pleaded to resisting an officer with violence, leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, reckless driving, tampering with a witness, assault and resisting arrest.
He was sentenced Friday.
The chase began when deputies went to Turner’s home on a domestic disturbance call. Turner sped off as deputies arrived and texted to the victim, “We’re not done until you’re not breathing” as they were speaking to her, according to the state attorney’s office.
The chase went through Pace and Milton. Turner drove against the flow of traffic and tried to hit patrol cars before he struck the deputy, according to reports.
Turner struggled when he was pulled from his vehicle until a police dog subdued him.
