BAKER — A 25-year-old woman who told deputies she left her house to avoid her abusive boyfriend was taken to the hospital Monday morning after being attacked.
The victim told Okaloosa County sheriff’s deputies that her boyfriend showed up at the house where she was staying and beat her with a stick.
Joseph Fleming, a 26-year-old Baker man, and Athena Jeanell Griffith, a 31-year-old Crestview woman, were charged in the attack, according to their arrest reports.
Fleming was charged with two counts of aggravated battery with a weapon and burglary. Griffith was charged with battery and burglary.
The victim told deputies that Fleming repeatedly grabbed, pushed and slapped her at their Baker home. She left Saturday to stay with a friend. Early Monday morning, Fleming forced his way into that house and began hitting her and her friend on the head with a stick.
Griffith grabbed the victim and struck her in the chest, the report states.
The victim was taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center, where she was treated for a head injury. She had bruises on her legs, waist, torso and arms, according to an OCSO release.
