DESTIN – A member of the housecleaning staff at a Destin condominium was accused of taking credit cards from guests’ rooms and using them at local stores, according to an arrest report.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Department says Karen Patricia Cameron-Bucknor, 40, of Jamaica, is suspected of taking credit cards from up to four people staying at Emerald Grande and racking up charges at stores in the Destin area.
The Sheriff’s Office was initially contacted by a guest at the condo, who said her American Express card showed fraudulent charges at Target and Belk amounting to $758.42.
Emerald Grande’s director of security was able to determine which key card was used to open the woman’s room, leading deputies to Bucknor.
Images captured from store video at the time of the transactions were used to positively identify Bucknor.
After deputies arrested her, they found other credit cards stolen from guests at the resort and fraudulently used.
She was charged with theft of property from a guest at a lodging or restaurant establishment, and illegal use of credit cards, both felonies.
Her plea date is Oct. 29.
