NAVARRE — A Columbus, Ga., woman was seriously injured Monday morning after her car went off the roadway on Gulf Boulevard and into the sand dunes.
Margarette G. Freiberg, 61, was traveling east near the intersection of Navarre Beach Causeway when she went off the road and onto the south shoulder, according to the Florida Highway Patrol press release.
Freiberg’s 2008 Lexus SUV overturned several times after it left the roadway coming to a final rest in the sand dunes, the release said.
Chief Mike Howard with Navarre Beach Fire Department said a witness told officials the vehicle was airborne for about 200 feet.
The crash caused around $15,000 in damages.
The vehicle was spotted at 7:11 a.m. in the sand dunes, Howard said.
Freiberg was taken to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola in serious condition. She was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
FHP is investigating the crash.
