NAVARRE — Some of the top soft sand sculptors in the world will compete against each other Sept. 27 through Sept. 29 during the Navarre Beach Sand Sculpting Festival.
The festival, which is in its fourth year, will take place next to the Navarre Beach Fishing Pier throughout the day.
“We are excited to welcome these Sand Masters for the fourth year,” said Kate Wilkes, executive director of the Santa Rosa County Tourism Development Council.
This year’s sculpting theme will be “bigger is better.” Sculptors will use the themes to make larger than life sculpture centerpieces.
The public is invited to watch the sand sculptors create their masterpieces and get involved in the competition by registering to compete in the amateur division. Teams and individuals can compete, but there is a limit to the first 20 applicants.
The festival will also features a 60-ton exhibit sculpture created by the master sculptors as the event’s centerpiece.
Other attractions include "Quick Sand," an audience-participation event in which sculptors go head-to-head for a ten-minute competition and advance to further championship rounds based on audience applause as well as sand sculpting lessons by the sculptors.
