MILTON — Santa Rosa County commissioners followed their attorney’s recommendation Thursday and tabled a discussion on the future management of the Navarre Beach pier before it even began.
Pasco Gibson and Yolanda Wells, who last month were ranked as the top choice to manage the pier, filed a lawsuit Wednesday to prevent the county from negotiating with any other firm unless a deal cannot be reached with them first.
The board on Thursday was expected to reopen its discussion after the ranking system used to select Gibson and Wells came under fire.
County Attorney Angie Jones recommended the board table the vote on awarding the contract so she could work to resolve the issue.
After the meeting, Jones said she could not estimate how long that will take.
The county’s contract with Pier Inc., the current managers of the pier, runs through the end of the year.
“There’s no hazard there in that the pier will continue to operate as it has for the last three years,” Jones said.
Commissioners voted unanimously to delay discussion on the contract until Jones brings it back to them.
