FORT WALTON BEACH – A man is accused of taking two guitars and a children’s art set from cars at a Circle Drive residence.
How did lawmen catch him?
He apparently left his cell phone in one of the cars.
According to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, the vehicle owners discovered the hood was ajar on one of the cars and went to investigate. The cars had been unlocked and contained two gift-wrapped guitars and a gift-wrapped art set. Those items were missing. Total value was $320.
The owners did, however, find a cell phone in the front seat of one of the cars. They found a number in the phone listed as “mom’s number.” The report didn’t indicate who called “mom’s number.”
The mother and stepfather of 21-year-old Brennon Jeffrey Lawrence picked him up at a Duval Street residence and took him to meet with a sheriff’s deputy. Lawrence allegedly told them he “left the books in there,” referring to a stack of books that was in one of the burglarized cars, according to the report.
Lawrence took them to an area where he said he’d thrown one of the guitars and the art set. They found the items. Lawrence had the other guitar, the report indicated.
He was charged with burglary to a conveyance and larceny. His plea date is Oct. 15.
