CRESTVIEW – A man was arrested after an 11-year-old girl claimed he grabbed her by the neck during an argument in the parking lot of a local restaurant.

Crestview Police say the girl, her mother, her stepbrothers and the suspect were at the Waffle House on South Ferdon Boulevard having a meal when the girl made a statement that the 34-year-old man was not her real father (the arrest report narrative did not refer to the man as the girl’s stepfather, but did say the girl was his daughter). The man became upset and an argument ensued.

They finished their meal, left the restaurant and got into their vehicle, when the argument re-ignited. The girl tried to get out of the vehicle but was restrained by the man, who grabbed her by the neck, according to the report. The girl eventually got out and ran around the vehicle to escape the suspect.

A Waffle House employee told officers she saw the vehicle rock back and forth while the man punched at the girl. She couldn’t tell if the man were actually hitting her.

One of the man’s sons said his dad pulled her hair.

The man was charged with child abuse and will enter his plea on Oct. 15.
