FORT WALTON BEACH — The Fort Walton Yacht Club wants to add a swimming pool to its list of amenities and is well on its way to raising $100,000 for construction.

To that end, the club is having a members-only “pool party” from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

“We’re going to dress up in pool wear and have a fashion show, prizes and games,” said club member Amy Semenov. “We’re trying to get word out amongst members.”

The Fort Walton Yacht Club was founded in 1951 to foster sailing in the community. The club offers lessons and hosts regattas.

It also provides social activities for its 300 or so members, and a pool would go a long way toward that, Semenov said.

“Say people are going sailing and their kids aren’t going to go out. Their kids could use the pool,” she said. “It would enhance the club.”

Semenov hopes the club will have enough money raised to start construction in the next couple months. The pool is proposed to be 20 feet wide and 40 feet long, with a 3-foot shallow end and a 5-foot deep end.

When built, Semenov hopes the pool will provide more awareness about what the Yacht Club has to offer.

“We’re always open to new members and we’d love to have new members join the club,” she said.
