FORT WALTON BEACH — Two 19-year-olds were injured Tuesday night when their Moped was hit by another vehicle.

Aziz Bustos of Fort Walton Beach was driving the 2013 Bash Moped westbound on U.S. Highway 98 about one mile east of Pier Road around 11:45 p.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol press release.

Fort Walton Beach resident 49-year-old David B. Kessler also was driving westbound on Hwy. 98 when he caught up with Bustos’ scooter and failed to slow down.

Kessler’s 2006 Honda rear-ended the Moped causing Bustos and his passenger, Destin resident Mariya Trenkina, to move rearward from their vehicle. Both hit the hood, windshield and roof of Kessler’s car.

The pair eventually fell onto the roadway and the scooter was propelled forward falling and tumbling on its right side causing $1,400 in damage to the vehicle and $20,000 in damages to the Honda.

Bustos was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola in critical condition. Trenkina was taken to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola in serious condition. Neither were wearing helmets.

Kessler was not injured.

Charges in this case are pending further investigation.
