More rain this weekend may put a damper to the repairs and recovery efforts in Walton County from last weekend’s storms.
Inlet Beach received almost 10 inches of rain Aug. 16-18, according to the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow network.
The network also recorded 4.3 inches for DeFuniak Springs during the same period.
A disorganized area of low pressure in the Gulf of Mexico now threatens coastal Walton County in particular with more rain this weekend, said Katie Moore, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Tallahassee.
A flood warning remains in effect for the Choctawhatchee River near Bruce until further notice, according to the Weather Service.
A 200-yard portion County Road 30A still is closed after the asphalt collapsed last weekend, Walton County spokesman Louis Svehla said.
As rain has continued the damage has escalated, he said.
“We need a few days of light or no rain to assess how widespread the damage is,” Svelha said.
Officials from the county and the Federal Emergency Management Agency will inspect the area Monday to determine the best course of action, Svehla said. There is no timetable for the road’s repair or reopening.
The bridge on Indian Creek Ranch Road near DeFuniak Springs also is still off its moorings.
The Sheriff’s Office will have a list of road conditions posted on its website, Twitter profile and Facebook page, spokeswoman Catherine Rodriguez said.
Deputies will place signs or barricades warning motorists of damaged roads. Barricades in particular are not to be moved.
