Instead of spending all of their earned money on themselves, two siblings from Fort Walton Beach are donating a portion to a local charity.
Robert and Jennifer Fancher decided to give $21 each month to FRESH Start for Children & Families, a local organization that provides long-term help to homeless people.
They’re working toward a “250 Charter Membership” with Fresh Start. The nonprofit has a goal to get 250 people to donate $250 each year.
Robert, a 13-year-old at Lewis School in Valparaiso, will donate money he earns from mowing lawns. He said he wanted to give others the chance to make a new start.
“Most families aren’t as fortunate as we are,” Robert said.
Jennifer, an 11-year-old at Emerald Coast Christian School, will donate her babysitting money.
“I thought it was the right thing to do,” she said.
Martin Fancher, the siblings’ dad, said he and his wife are trying to teach Robert and Jennifer to give to charity and their church. He gave them a few pamphlets about local organizations.
Fresh Start caught their eyes, especially after they learned that the organization also teaches its clients how to manage their money.
“I want my kids to be giving from the heart,” Martin said.
