FORT WALTON BEACH - An Okaloosa County sheriff’s deputy discovered cocaine, cash and digital scales in the vehicle of a driver he stopped for running a stop sign.
Erick Lamont Pugh, 32, ran the stop sign at Poplar Avenue and Lovejoy Road about 7 p.m. Thursday, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The deputy was in a marked police vehicle with its lights flashing, a news release said. Pugh ignored commands to stop, got out of his vehicle and walked into a convenience store on Mary Esther Cut-Off, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
A police dog alerted to the presence of drugs in the car. Deputies found a digital scale and cocaine in the driver’s seat. Pugh also was carrying more than $3,500, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
He was charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest without violence.
