The rising price of natural gas soon will be reflected on Okaloosa Gas customers’ bills.
Okaloosa Gas has announced a 2.83 percent increase in the amount it pays for natural gas. That increase will appear on customers’ bills starting Sept. 1.
“What we pay for gas we actually pass on to the customer,” said Eddie Springle, marketing director for Okaloosa Gas. “We have no margin and no markup on that at all.
“It’s not a significant increase, but we want to be transparent with our customers,” he added.
Springle said the average residential customer will see a 96-cent increase on the monthly bill related to the higher fuel charge. The increase will be added now to avoid increasing the rate in the winter when customers’ bills traditionally are higher.
The fuel cost accounts for 43 percent of a customer’s bill, but is just one component of the bill. The remaining fees are for a customer charge, compliance charge and distribution charge.
“We have no plans to change any of the other components for the next year,” Springle said. “Everything else is going to stay pretty much set.”
Okaloosa Gas has a rate calculator on its website at www.okaloosagas.com/about-us/rate-information/ where users can see how the increase will affect their bills.
