Precautionary boil water notice issued for City of Valparaiso

A precautionary boil water notice has been issued by the City of Valparaiso for city water customers on the south side of Tom's Bayou Bridge.

The area includes John Sims Parkway and South Bayshore Drive to Indian Shores and South Bayshore Drive to Louisiana Avenue and Old Highway 10, according to a letter sent to city water customers.

During an emergency water main repair, water was turned off on John Sims Parkway at 3 p.m. Saturday for several hours, the letter reported.

The loss of water pressure from the water outage made it possible for contaminants to have entered the line, the letter stated.

There is no known or suspected contamination for the water system at this time, but city officials ask customers to boil their water as a precaution.

All tap water used for drinking, brushing your teeth, cooking, and other consumption, should be brought to a rapid boil for at least one minute before use.

Tap water is safe for bathing, washing clothes, and irrigation.

The notice will be in effect until bacteriological samples can be analyzed.

Anyone with questions or comments is asked to contact Valparaiso Public Works Director James D. Valandingham at 729-5407.
