FORT WALTON BEACH - A single-vehicle crash on Perry Avenue early Friday severed a power pole, according to police.
A witness told officers that a vehicle traveling east on Third Street sped through the stop sign while turning south onto Perry at 1:12 a.m., Sgt. Steve Hull said.
The Nissan 370Z slid into Perry’s northbound lanes, veered back and hit a utility pole near The Kitchen Shop, Hull said. The transformer blew and sent sparks onto the store and a fence.
The witness told police the car’s occupants ran away, Hull said. Police believe two people were in the Nissan.
About 22 Gulf Power customers were without electricity until 5:11 a.m., the utility company reported. Gulf Power crews installed a new pole later Friday.
