FORT WALTON BEACH – A man stammered while giving a sheriff’s deputy his age, and when the deputy discovered the birth year and age didn’t add up, the man was arrested for providing a fake ID.
On June 19 the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputy stopped the man’s car because the tag light had gone out. When he asked the man for his license, the man, 33-year-old Donald Durell Griffin of Fort Walton Beach, told the deputy his name was “Rico Ladarell Cargle,” according to his arrest report.
When the deputy asked Griffin how old he was, Griffin stammered several times. He said he was about to turn 33. The age he gave didn’t add up with the birth year he gave, and he was put on handcuffs.
When the deputy searched records, the name Griffin gave didn’t turn up. The deputy confronted Griffin and this time he gave his true name. A new records check revealed he had a suspended driver license.
He was charged with driving with a suspended license – habitual offender, and falsely identifying himself to a law enforcement officer.
His court date is July 23.
