SANTA ROSA BEACH - The Florida Department of Transportation has awarded Skanska USA Civil Southeast a $118.5 million design/build contract for a second two-lane bridge over Choctawhatchee Bay.
The DOT announced Tuesday that it expected to issue a notice to proceed in August, with completion expected in the fall of 2016.
The nearly 2.3-mile project for the U.S. Highway 331 bridge will include drainage improvements, new signage and pavement markings, and a park at the south end of the bridge.
DOT representatives told Walton County officials Monday that the bid price came in $57 million less than anticipated and that the agency will rebate the county $50 million.
That will cut the county’s contribution to the project from $75 million to $25 million.
