SHALIMAR -- A Fort Walton Beach man whose identity has not been released shot himself early Monday morning after a six-hour stand-off with the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.
The man was wanted on charges of aggravated battery, aggravated assault and false imprisonment in Walton County, according to a release from the Sheriff's Office.
Investigators learned that the individual, who was known to be in possession of firearms, had checked himself into the Fairfield Inn on 12th Avenue in Shalimar early Sunday morning.
The OCSO Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Unit responded and contacted the man, who refused to leave, the release said.
The hotel was evacuated and traffic was rerouted on nearby roads, including Eglin Parkway.
The stand-off ended around 2 a.m. Monday when the subject took his own life inside his room on the third floor.
His identity is being withheld pending next of kin.
