BAKER — An 11-year-old boy died Wednesday night following an ATV accident.
Wyatt Oglesby was riding on the front cargo rack of a 1997 Honda FourTrax driven by 14-year-old Taylor Oglesby about 4:45 p.m., according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol issued Thursday night.
The ATV was traveling across a field on property at 6490 William Gary Johnson Road when it approached a utility trailer. The coupler on the front of the trailer hit Wyatt Oglesby, the FHP reported.
His mother brought him to Mickey’s Country Store & Grill, according to rescuers. Someone at the store called 911.
“He is coming around now but EMS is requesting a unit with an (Automatic External Defibrillator),” according to the CAD report.
Baker Volunteer Fire Department and Okaloosa County Emergency Medical Services responded. A helicopter was called to fly Oglesby to Sacred Heart in Pensacola, but could not respond because of the weather, Baker Fire Chief Dusty Talbert said.
He was taken by ambulance to Sacred Heart, where he died.
Oglesby was a fifth-grader at Baker School. The school’s staff said Thursday afternoon they could not talk about him out of respect for his family’s wishes for privacy.
The accident was under investigation Thursday night, according to the FHP.
