FORT WALTON BEACH – A woman told a Fort Walton Beach Police officer she was a federal attorney and could not be detained in an assault case. Moments later she was on the wrong end of a Taser.
That’s according to a department arrest report.
On May 15 officers went to a Lovejoy Road address to investigate a report of an assault. The suspect, a 44-year-old woman, refused to speak with officers, telling them, “I have nothing to say to you people.”
When an officer tried to tell her the allegations were serious, she cut him off, saying “You want to lock me up, officer? I’m done talking with you.”
When the officer asked for her name, she allegedly replied, “I bet you do.” At that point she announced she was leaving. The officer told her she couldn’t; she responded, “I’m leaving the property.”
The officer followed her out a door. She continued walking several more steps, then turned around. She was holding a black bag. The officer drew a Taser and the woman asked why he was pointing a gun at her. The officer explained it was a Taser and told her to drop the bag. At that point she began “flailing her arms around,” according to the report, and said she was a federal attorney and couldn’t be detained.
A 5-second burst from the Taser put her on the ground.
She was charged with resisting arrest without violence and obstruction by a disguised person.
Her court date is June 4.
