DESTIN — Two people were injured in a near head-on collision on U.S. Highway 98 on Monday afternoon.
A car and a sport utility vehicle collided on westbound U.S. 98 at the intersection with Airport Road about 1:40 p.m., according to Philip Metz, medical division chief for the Destin Fire Department.
The two people in the car were injured. One was flown to a hospital in Pensacola with possible head injures, Metz said. The other was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with injures that were not life-threatening.
The person in the SUV was not hurt, he said.
The medical helicopter landed at the Morgan Sports Complex nearby to take the patient to the hospital.
All westbound lanes were shut down for about an hour after the wreck, Metz said. Traffic was rerouted down Airport Road and Commons Drive.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the cause of the wreck.
