CRESTVIEW — The city’s 1995 building regulations are so outdated that it would be better to scrap them and write a new code, according to a building official.
Jonathan Bilby last week introduced proposed revisions to the code, which would adopt the Florida Building Code as a foundation.
Additional revisions would come from a model code prepared by the Building Industry Association, Bilby told City Council members during a work session.
He recommended that Crestview adopt a new property maintenance code and unsafe structure provisions, and update contracting provisions.
Some provisions, such as portions pertaining to derelict and unsafe buildings, would be adopted from parts of the International Property Maintenance Code.
