FORT WALTON BEACH — A man was in stable condition at a Pensacola hospital Wednesday night after he was shot by an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputy, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting occurred just at 5:45 p.m. behind the Lee Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealership on Mary Esther Cut-Off, according to a news release.
No deputies were injured.
According to the Sheriff's Office, a deputy tried to make a traffic stop on Mary Esther Cut-Off after the Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting an erratic driver, spokeswoman Michele Nicholson said.
A man got out of the car and ran behind the car dealership with the deputy in pursuit, Nicholson said.
Neither the shooting victim nor the deputy involved was identified.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is interviewing witnesses and processing the scene. The details of what lead to the shooting and where the unidentified man was shot have not been released as of Thursday morning. The State Attorney’s Office also has been notified.
