Subject flown to Pensacola hospital after officer-involved shooting

FORT WALTON BEACH — A man was in stable condition at a Pensacola hospital Wednesday night after he was shot by an Okaloosa County sheriff’s deputy, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting occurred just before 6 p.m.  behind the Lee Chrysler Dodge Jeep dealership on Mary Esther Cut-Off,

No deputies were injured, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. 

A deputy tried to make a traffic stop on Mary Esther Cut-Off after the Sheriff's Office received a 911 call reporting an erratic driver, spokeswoman Michele Nicholson said.

A man got out of the car and ran behind car dealership with the deputy in pursuit, Nicholson said.  

Neither the shooting victim nor the deputy involved was identified. 

No more details were available late Wednesday.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will investigate the case because a deputy was involved, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The state attorney’s office also has been notified.
