NICEVILLE -- Firefighters rescued  a 26-year-old man who broke his leg in three places while wake boarding in Rocky Bayou Saturday afternoon.

The man was still attached to his wake board when firefighter reached him in their boat shortly after 1:30 p.m. He was floating about 200 yards off Edgewater Drive, said Niceville Assistant Fire Chief Tony Lohrman.

Two firefighters jumped into the water to stabalize the man while they cut off the wake board. Then they were able to load him into the boat using the dive door and take him to shore where an ambulance awaited, Lohrman said.

That and a response to a boat fire Sunday afternoon kept firefighters busy on the water this weekend, Lohrman said. Their new boat has been used about 12 times in the last month since they purchased it.

North Bay firefighters and Okaloosa County EMS also responded to the wake boarding accident.
