FORT WALTON BEACH – A man who was huffing propellant from a spray can at a car wash refused to cooperate with officers and was escorted to the ground, lawmen say.

On April 21 Fort Walton Beach Police officers were told a man was inhaling propellant from a spray can at a car wash on Memorial Parkway. When they arrived they found the man sitting between the vacuum cleaners with a can of Ultra Duster. They asked what he was doing and he replied he wasn’t hurting anyone, then held the can to his mouth, sprayed, and breathed deeply.

Officers told him he was under arrest and to put his hands behind his back. He locked his arms to his body, they said, and continued to passively resist until they got him on the ground and handcuff him.

He was charged with inhalation of a harmful chemical substance and resisting without violence. His court date is May 14.
