FORT WALTON BEACH – A Crestview man was arrested on drug charges after an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s deputy spotted him leaving a food mart and knew he had active warrants out for his arrest.
On April 17 a deputy saw 18-year-old Richard Earl King leave the Corner Food Mart on Bob Sikes Boulevard. The deputy knew King had warrants out for failure to appear and resisting an officer without violence, so he tried to take King into custody, according to the arrest report. King fled and was chased down by the deputy.
The deputy found crack and a cell phone on King. When he checked the phone he found numerous text messages “consistent with narcotics transactions,” the officer wrote.
King told the officer he wasn’t a crack user.
He was charged with obstruction without violence and cocaine possession with intent to distribute. His court date is May 28.
