FORT WALTON BEACH -- Students at Elliott Point Elementary School spread word Monday about Earth Day in a unique way.
Students in all grades helped decorate more than 500 brown paper bags in Earth Day themes for a local store to bag groceries in, according to third grade teacher Amelia Keeney Garrett.
A group of third graders from the school made a walking field trip to Winn Dixie in Uptown Station to present the bags Monday morning.
The bags were created as part of a worldwide effort called Earth Day Grocery Project to encourage participation in Earth Day activities, she said.
After delivering the bags the students also picked up trash at Ferry Park in Fort Walton Beach.
