CRESTVIEW — A 29-year-old man from Evergreen, Ala., was killed after his pick-up truck crashed into the back of a car early Sunday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Shortly after 2 a.m., Jamie Smith, headed southbound on State Road 4, crashed into a car in front of him that was slowing for a stop sign at the intersection with State Road 10.
Smith’s truck continued forward and struck a utility pole support wire and then crashed into a tree. The truck flipped up onto its nose and rested on the tree.
The impact from the truck sent the car spinning out into the shoulder and then into another tree.
Smith died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver and passenger in the car, Zena Vaughn, 49, and Calvin Vaughn, 50, both of Cincinnati, were injured.
Zena Vaughn was taken to Baptist Hospital in Pensacola in critical condition. Calvin Vaughn suffered serious injuries and was taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center, according to the FHP.
All three were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, the FHP reported.
It was unknown whether alcohol was a factor. The FHP was continuing to investigate the cause of the crash late Sunday.
