Traffic stop leads to drug bust

DeFUNIAK SPRINGS — A traffic stop on Interstate 10 on Wednesday afternoon led to the seizure of drugs and charges against two Louisiana residents, according to the Walton County Sheriff‘s Office.

Deputies noticed a vehicle following too closely to other vehicles and pulled it over just west of the DeFuniak Springs exit at 2:30 p.m., a Sheriff‘s Office news release said.

Deputies could smell marijuana and the driver admitted marijuana was in the vehicle, the news release stated. A police dog also alerted to drugs in the vehicle and in a camper it was pulling.

One passenger, Bryan J. Morgan, 31, of New Orleans, admitted to having 30 grams of marijuana, a marijuana pipe and digital scales.

Deputies found that another passenger, Kristen Marshall, 33, of New Orleans, had 30 grams of marijuana, 2.5 oxycodone pills, one Soma pill, half a tablet believed to be Hydrocodone, two pieces of Xanax bars, eight small pills believed to be MDMA, 45 hits of LSD and methamphetamine.

Because of his cooperation, Morgan was charged with possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was given a notice to appear in court.

Marshall was charged with possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, trafficking in LSD and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was taken to Walton County Jail on $300,000 bond.
