FLOROSA — Jackson Guard will be conducting a 1,000-acre prescribed burn on Eglin Air Force Base reservation land at about 11 a.m. in Florosa on Tuesday.
The fire will back up to about a quarter-mile area where the reservation meets civilian property in the neighborhood along U.S. Highway 98 behind the 98 West Lounge and Club 51, said Eglin's environmental spokesman Mike Spaits.
The area is burned about every four years for the health of the forest and to reduce wildfire risk.
"It's time," Spaits said.
He said residents can expect a lot of smoke, but that south winds should reduce its impact.
Jackson Guard and the Florosa Fire Department will be on standby if needed.
