VALPARAISO — A 27-year-old DeFuniak Springs woman was injured Saturday night after her vehicle drifted off the roadway and into a tree on the opposite side of the roadway.

Valparaiso Fire Chief Mark Norris said officials were called to 66 John Sims Parkway around 3:20 a.m. for a single-vehicle wreck with entrapment.

Norris said a 2004 Camry ran across the median of the road, across a curb and into a large tree causing the driver, Ashley Voss, to be thrown into the passenger side of the vehicle.

Valparaiso Police Department is currently investigating the accident.

Norris said Voss appeared to be coming from the Eglin Air Force Base area when she wrecked her vehicle. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to remove the vehicle’s passenger-side door to remove Voss.

She was not conscious when first responders arrived.

Norris said airbags were deployed during the wreck. He added that the gear shift in the center console was torn out during the accident.

Voss suffered injuries to her face and possibly to her feet. Voss was taken by medical helicopter to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola following her arrival at an area hospital for her injuries.
