CRESTVIEW – An accused shoplifter gave this excuse to a Crestview Police officer for his attempted theft of video games and memory cards: “I tried to save a hundred bucks.”
On Feb. 27 the 28-year-old Youngstown man was spotted at the Crestview Walmart in the electronics department. An asset protection employee and video surveillance confirmed the man chose two video games and four 8G memory cards, then moved to the toy department where he removed the games from their anti-theft devices.
He then left through the garden center without paying for the merchandise, which was valued at $219.76.
The man later told the officer he could have paid for the merchandise but “I tried to save a hundred bucks.”
He was charged with retail theft. His court date is March 26.
