NAVARRE -- Facebook posts by a former Navarre High School student drew extra Santa Rosa County Sheriff's Office deputies to the school this week. However, school officials and the Sheriff's Office said they have found no evidence of a “credible threat.”
Principal Brian Noack said that the man, who is upset about his younger brother’s recent death, had put some “dark posts” on his Facebook page.
Students read the posts and started to extrapolate that there might be a threat to students or the school, even though one was never stated, Noack said.
“It’s how rumors get started,” Noack said. “We’ve been monitoring the situation. In the last several days, we’ve had a presence of officers making their rounds. That’s more a precautionary measure than anything else.”
He added that the No. 1 priority was the safety of students.
